The Impact of the Operationalization of "Innovation"Texas A&M University This research note reports the results of a study into differences in the definition and measurement of the innovation phenomenon. Such an undertaking addresses the conten tion that the lack of agreement on what an innovation is contributes to variability in identifying the determinants of innovation. Using Florida cities, innovativeness is mea sured by three different methods. It is found that these operationalizations produce highly correlated innovation scores for the cities.
